Session Overview This is a speed-endurance session designed for runners of all levels. We will be working through a "ladder" format that targets multiple physiological systems—building your aerobic engine while sharpening your anaerobic "kick" for the finish line.

The Workout After a collective warm-up and drills, we will perform 3 to 5 sets of the following:

600m at 5k Goal Pace

200m Recovery

400m at 3k Goal Pace (slightly faster than 5k)

200m Recovery

200m Sprint (Fast/Mile Pace)

400m Recovery (between sets)

Repeat for 3-5 sets

Training Benefits

Lactate Threshold: Improves your ability to maintain a fast pace under fatigue.

Running Economy: Short, fast repetitions help improve your form and efficiency.

Pacing Discipline: Teaches you how to transition between different speed gears.

Ability & Logistics This is an all-abilities session. We operate a "rolling start" format, meaning everyone works at their own relative intensity. Faster runners may complete more sets, while those newer to the track can focus on completing 3 high-quality sets.

Requirements:

Bring water and ensure you are wearing appropriate running shoes.

All paces are based on your own current fitness level. No runner is ever left behind.

Why we love this session:Speed Endurance: Teaches your body to maintain pace even when the legs feel heavy. ✅ The "Kick": Mimics the end of a race, training your brain to find that extra gear. ✅ Efficiency: Improves your running economy, making your "easy" pace feel even easier.

Suitable for ALL abilities! Whether you’re training for your first 5k or chasing a sub-3 marathon, this session is effort-based. We run on a rolling clock, so you can focus on your own intervals without the pressure of "keeping up."

See you at the track—bring your water, your watch, and your lungs! 🫁🔥Why track sessions are so good ✅

Great for pace control — you learn what different efforts actually feel like

Helps you run with better form (posture, cadence, relaxed shoulders)

Builds speed endurance for 5K/10K and improves confidence at faster paces

Safe, measured environment for quality running — you choose the intensity and we’ll guide it

All abilities welcome — whether you’re a sub-20-minute 5K or building up your speed from the 30 plus minute mark. See you down the track! 💪🚀

To cover the costs of the track, we are offering this session to Somer AC members at a charge of just £3. Non-members are welcome to attend at a cost of £4 each.

We have use of the outdoor track from 20:00-21:00.

Everyone aged 12 and over is welcome, regardless of pace—for many this may be a first experience, so come along and join us!

We will be meeting at 1945 for a 2000 start.
